Talk by Dr. Nanasaheb D. Thorat on Epitaxy of III-V Semiconductors: The ART of growing single crystals (12 July, 2024)


The need for multidisciplinary education has become increasingly evident in today's complex world. Renowned researcher and Curie Fellow, Dr. Nanasaheb Thorat, Associate at the Limerick Digital Cancer Research Centre, University of Limerick, recently shed light on this topic at a lecture titled “Multidisciplinary research career a way forward” organized by the Department of Physics, Shivaji University. The session underscored the importance of integrating diverse fields of study to foster innovation and comprehensive understanding among students.

The program was introduced by Dr. V. S. Kumbhar, who also provided an introduction to Dr. Thorat. Prof. (Dr.) R. G. Sonkawade, the President, presented Dr. Thorat with shawl, acknowledging his contributions. Dr. Thorat's lecture focused on the advancements in cancer research and the significance of a multidisciplinary approach in education.



Dr. Thorat emphasized the necessity of a broad knowledge base for students, integrating philosophy, social science, and scientific research. He highlighted that understanding various subjects enhances the capacity for joint research and innovation within well-resourced faculties. He also provided scientific insights into cancer research, captivating the audience with his expertise.



The lecture concluded with a dynamic question-and-answer session, fostering spontaneous discussions and deeper engagement with the topic. Dr. Thorat's responses further elucidated the benefits of a multidisciplinary approach in education and research.



In his presidential speech, Prof. (Dr.) R. G. Sonkawade reminisced about Dr. Thorat’s contributions and emphasized the importance of bold decision-making and overcoming the fear of failure. He encouraged rural students to adopt a multidisciplinary approach to enhance their educational journey.



Dr. S. S. Patil appreciated the efforts of all participants in making the lecture a success. The event was adeptly moderated by students Sadhana Parit and Sakshi Kale from the Department of Physics. The Congress saw the presence of esteemed faculty members including Prof. (Dr.) K. Y. Rajpure, Dr. R. S. Whatker, Dr. N. L. Tarwal, Dr. Alok Jatrakar, Dr. H. M. Yadav, Dr. S. P. Das, and Dr. A. R. Patil.
