Over 1,000 Participate in Grand Health & Blood Donation Camp at Shivaji University; Collector Urges Youth to Leverage Technology for Careers

Kolhapur: On March 24, 2026, Shivaji University’s Department of Physics successfully hosted a massive Health Check-up and Blood Donation Camp. Organized in partnership with the Neem Karoli Baba Charitable Trust and Chhatrapati Pramilaraje (CPR) Government General Hospital, the initiative drew an overwhelming community response, with over 1,000 students, faculty, and citizens registering to participate.

The inauguration ceremony was marked by the distinguished presence of Kolhapur's District Collector and Magistrate, Mr. Amol Yedage (IAS). Following a ceremonial salute and the traditional lighting of the lamp, Mr. Yedage commended the Department of Physics for its flawless execution of the camp.

In a compelling address to the attendees, he offered valuable advice to today's youth regarding digital wellness. "Young people should avoid excessive use of social media and consciously reduce their screen time," he stated. "Instead of using mobile phones solely for entertainment, they should be utilized as tools for career advancement and acquiring new skills." He further urged the youth to prioritize their physical fitness to remain competitive and resilient in the modern era.

Presiding over the event, Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Suresh Gosavi praised the department's faculty and students for their dedication to social responsibility alongside academic excellence.

Mr. Arun Aradhye, Managing Director of Menon Bearings Ltd. and Menon Alcop Ltd., attended as a distinguished guest and highlighted the strong synergy between Kolhapur's industrial sector and community welfare. He assured the university that local entrepreneurs would continue to offer their unwavering support to such constructive initiatives in the future.

The camp offered a wide array of free, high-quality medical services and treatments to attendees, including: General Medicine, General Surgery, ENT, Orthopedics, Dentistry, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Cardiology, and Gynecology. Comprehensive blood and urine testing facilities. Free eye examinations alongside the distribution of complimentary spectacles to those in need. Free medication distributed to patients following their health check-ups. A highly successful voluntary blood donation drive driven by spontaneous community participation.

The grand scale of the camp was made possible by the generous financial and material contributions from local industrial and commercial organizations. Principal sponsors included Menon Bearings Ltd. (MIDC Gokul Shirgaon), Highland Club (Shiroli), Sunshine Acres (Savarde), Sound Castings Pvt. Ltd., Parth Optics, Aditya Industries, Siddhanath Decorators, and Yash Refrigeration.

The program commenced with an introduction by Prof. (Dr.) R. G. Sonkawade, Head of the Department of Physics, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Research Professor Dr. M. V. Takale.

Following a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to officially open the camp, several notable figures toured the facility. Attendees included Dr. V. N. Shinde (Registrar, Shivaji University), Swagat Parulekar (Management Council Member), alongside Bhushan Mirje (Medical Superintendent) and Krishna Londhe (Medical Coordinator) from CPR Hospital, surrounded by a large gathering of enthusiastic students and university staff.
