Department of Physics, Shivaji University, organized a
lecture titled "Recent advances in Aerogel research", shedding light
on the promising advancements in aerogel materials. Dr. V. G. Parale, a Research
Professor from Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea, spearheaded this
enlightening discourse. The event commenced with an introduction by Sonkawade,
who introduced both the program and the speaker, Dr. V. G. Parale. Dr. Parale,
a luminary in the field, was honored with a shawl and shrifal as a gesture of
appreciation.
Dr. Parale's address delved into the remarkable
journey of aerogel research, tracing its origins and evolution. He attributed
the genesis of aerogel research in India to Dr. A. V. Rao, under whose guidance
it first took root in the Physics department of Shivaji University. The lecture
provided insights into the preparation of aerogel materials, elucidating both
the challenges and the vast opportunities they present.
Aerogels, known for their diverse applications,
particularly as fire retardants, were thoroughly discussed by Dr. Parale. He
highlighted how altering the composition of aerogel materials can lead to
varying properties, opening doors to multifarious uses across industries. Dr. Parale
envisaged a future where aerogel materials would seamlessly integrate into our
daily lives, akin to plastics but with enhanced functionalities.
The interactive session that ensued saw enthusiastic
participation from students, engaging in a fruitful exchange of ideas and
queries. Prof. Dr. K. Y. Rajpure expressed gratitude to all involved in making
the lecture a resounding success, underscoring the pivotal role of the Physics
department in advancing aerogel research. Miss Neha and Sadhana were
acknowledged for good anchoring. Additionally, the presence of faculty members
such as Dr. A. V. Moholkar, Dr. M. V. Takale, Dr. U. M. Chougale, Dr. A. R.
Patil, and Dr. S. S. Patil, alongside students, added to the event's
significance.
