The Department of Physics at Shivaji University recently concluded a vibrant welcome ceremony for the M.Sc. Part I (2024-2025). The program buzzed with enthusiasm as students and faculty members.
The ceremony commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony officiated by the invited guests. As the program unfolded, students – Komal Ghutukade, Vaishnavi Yadav, Supriya Patil, and Tushar Sutar – took to the stage to share their unique experiences and anecdotes within the department.
The event's chief guest, Prof. Dr. K. D. Sonawane, Head of the Department of Biochemistry, was introduced by Sakshatha Waghmare, another student. Professor Sonawane's address delved into the "fascinating interplay between physics, chemistry, and biology." He emphasized the crucial role these fundamental sciences play in unraveling the mysteries of life processes. Highlighting the burgeoning field of quantum biochemistry and its profound impact on cellular functions, Professor Sonawane also provided captivating examples of groundbreaking discoveries in areas like molecular dynamics and DNA structure.
His message resonated with the students, urging them to embark on a journey of exploration within the vast frontiers of research. He advised them to meticulously prepare for competitive examinations like NET, SET, and GATE. Professor Sonawane's guidance extended beyond academics, encompassing valuable insights on education and exams, the pervasive influence of social media, and the importance of personal development.
The program also featured a presidential speech by the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. R. G. Sonakwade. He emphasized the significance of education and the essential qualities required to thrive in life. Professor Sonakwade shed light on the department's rich traditions, the invaluable contributions of its faculty members, and its esteemed position in the realm of research. He underscored the importance of punctuality, discipline, and a multidisciplinary approach in educational pursuits. Drawing inspiration from successful figures like Elon Musk, Professor Sonakwade encouraged the students to broaden their perspectives and foster a spirit of collaboration. The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Aditi Gurav.
